Lucky dumpster dive…

Imagine walking a long and seeing this item lying near a garbage can.

Would you pick it up? I wouldn't.  I would just walk on by – probably shaking my head at the things people paint.

And I would of walk right past a $1,049,000 painting. Yelp, your eyes did not lie – $1,049,000.  Money mouth  You see it is a 1970 painting by Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo entitled Tres Personajes (Three People).  Besides being a highly priced painting, it also has quite the story.

"Tres Personajes" was stole to a couple in 1977 for around $55,000 – but was stolen ten years later in 1987. The painting disappeared until Elizabeth Gibson walked by it lying on the street in Manhattan's Upper West Side.  She hung it up in her house for a few months until researching it online.  That is when she discovered the history and value of the painting.

Ms. Gibson went on to return the painting to it's rightful owner – receiving a $15,000 reward and an unknown percentage of the sale price.  Lucky dumpster dive…
